Environmental stewardship is a fundamental tenet at Horizon Logistics. Our associates are expected, at a minimum, to comply fully with all U.S. and international environmental laws and regulations.
In order to go beyond mere compliance, we have launched Horizon Green to better understand and measure our impact on the environment, and to develop programs that incorporate environmental thinking and mitigation into our core operations.
Carbon Offsets
An area of particular concern for the logistics industry is carbon dioxide emissions. To address the issue, we created the Horizon Green carbon offset program to offer customers an opportunity to develop carbon neutral logistics programs. We do this through the purchase of Verified Emission Reductions (VERs), commonly known as carbon offsets. VERs support emissions reductions projects, including agricultural methane capture, forest preservation and wind farm development, among others.
Using our proprietary carbon calculator covering weight, distance, and mode of transport, we make an exact calculation of the carbon dioxide emitted for each shipment. Customers can then purchase for a nominal fee third-party VERs that are audited against best-in-class publicly available standards. We provide monthly reports of total carbon dioxide emitted and offset reductions allocated. Customers receive certificates verifying their participation and offset levels, as well as the right to use the Aero Green “Clean Shipper” seal on websites and marketing materials.
