Horizon Lines and Horizon Logistics Technology conducted several equipment visibility pilots over the course of 2005, 2006 and 2007 with a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Puerto Rico. The objective of the pilots was to provide end-to-end visibility of pharmaceutical shipments, especially to the inland portion of the transportation move, from origin to destination. During these pilots, the following capabilities were solidified which today have become the foundation of Horizon Logistics value added service within the Pharmaceutical industry.
- Providing real-time, in-transit visibility to confirm the integrity and the security of high-value shipments.
- Establishing a service to track, monitor and respond to deviations in temperature, security and shipment routes.
- Addressing capabilities to support future legislative changes around security and visibility for maritime shipments.
- Assisting pharmaceutical customers in realizing value through cost reduction and/or productivity.
- Assisting carriers in realizing value through improved asset utilization.
